Narok Governor and GDC Forge Partnership for Suswa Geothermal Field Development
In a significant step towards harnessing the vast potential of geothermal energy in Narok County, Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and representatives from the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) recently signed a collaboration framework agreement. This agreement marks a crucial milestone in the joint effort to market and utilize geothermal energy within Narok County, specifically in the Narok East constituency.
The focal point of this collaboration is the Suswa Geothermal Field, a region known for its significant geothermal resources. The Suswa Geothermal Field, located in the Rift Valley, has long been identified as a prime location for geothermal energy extraction. With the collaboration framework agreement in place, the Narok County government, under Governor Ntutu's leadership, and GDC aim to capitalize on this valuable resource for sustainable energy development.
The signing ceremony, attended by key figures such as GDC Board Chairman Walter Nyambati and GDC CEO Mr. Paul Mwangi, signifies a commitment to a comprehensive partnership. Both parties bring unique strengths to the table, with the Narok County government contributing local insights and support, while GDC, as a leading player in geothermal development, brings technical expertise and experience.
The collaborative effort focuses on the marketing and utilization of geothermal energy, emphasizing the economic and environmental benefits it can bring to Narok County. Geothermal energy is a clean and renewable source of power that can significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable development.
Governor Ntutu expressed his optimism about the collaboration, stating that it aligns with the county's vision for energy independence and economic growth. The utilization of geothermal energy not only addresses the energy needs of the region but also opens up opportunities for job creation and infrastructure development.
Walter Nyambati, GDC Board Chairman, emphasized the importance of partnerships between government entities and specialized agencies in advancing the geothermal sector. He highlighted GDC's commitment to working closely with Narok County to maximize the benefits of geothermal resources.
CEO Paul Mwangi outlined the technical aspects of the collaboration, detailing plans for exploration, drilling, and power plant development. The partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of geothermal projects in Narok East constituency, contributing to the national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in Kenya's power generation.
As the collaboration takes shape, it is expected to set a precedent for other regions to leverage geothermal resources for sustainable development. The synergy between local government and industry experts, as demonstrated by the Narok County-GDC partnership, serves as a model for successful public-private collaboration in advancing clean energy solutions. The Suswa Geothermal Field stands poised to become a beacon of progress in Kenya's journey towards a more sustainable and energy-independent future.
