In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable technology, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have inked a historic agreement to construct the world's first data centre powered entirely by geothermal energy. This momentous event was witnessed by President William Ruto, marking a significant step forward for Kenya's digital infrastructure.

The memorandum of understanding signed between Kenya's EcoCloud and UAE's G42 represents a pivotal moment in the convergence of technology and environmental conservation. Under this partnership, a colossal 1GW mega data centre will be erected, catapulting Kenya's digital economy to unprecedented heights.

Amos Siwoi, CEO of EcoCloud, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "By harnessing geothermal energy, we are not only meeting the region's data needs but also setting a new standard for eco-friendly infrastructure." This sentiment was echoed by Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, who hailed the project as a milestone towards realizing Kenya's potential as a global digital hub.

EcoCloud, renowned for its cutting-edge data centre solutions, joins forces with G42, a global leader in visionary artificial intelligence, to harness Kenya's vast untapped geothermal potential. The initial phase will see the construction of a 100MW facility, with plans for scaling up operations in the future.

At full capacity, the geothermal-powered data centre promises to revolutionize Kenya's energy landscape, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, curbing carbon emissions, and advancing environmental conservation efforts. The project aligns with Kenya's commitment to sustainable development and reinforces its position as a leader in innovative technology solutions.

The signing ceremony, held at State House, Nairobi, was attended by UAE Ambassador to Kenya Salim Ibrahim Binahmed Mohamed Alnaqbi, underscoring the significance of this collaboration between nations.

Polands Geothermal Wells hits 5km depth Eyeing a 7Km Threshold

Geothermal Milestone Reached: Banska PGP-4 Well in Szaflary, Poland Hits 5-Kilometer Depth By : Robert Buluma In a significant development for geothermal energy enthusiasts, drilling operations at the Banska PGP-4 well in Szaflary, Poland have reached a depth of 5 kilometers, marking a major milestone in the project's progress towards its 7-kilometer target. Since its inception, the ambitious geothermal drilling project in Szaflary has been making steady strides. As of the end of 2023, the well has successfully reached a depth of 5000 meters, uncovering promising results along the way. Notably, the well has tapped into a sizable reservoir boasting temperatures of 120 °C. The drilling will persist until it reaches the targeted depth of 7000 meters, where another aquifer is anticipated. The entire drilling endeavor is slated for completion within the first quarter of 2024. Initiated in 2019, the plans to drill a 7-kilometer geothermal well in Podhale, Szaflary aimed at gathering cruc
