Exploring Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Geothermal Future: UNDP Calls for Experts to Lead Groundbreaking Study

Unlocking Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Geothermal Potential: A Golden Opportunity for Experts

The global push for sustainable energy has ignited interest in geothermal resources, and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is the latest country stepping up to explore its underground energy reserves. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Development of a Study on the Geothermal Potential of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH). This presents a lucrative opportunity for geothermal experts, energy consultants, and research institutions to shape the future of renewable energy in the region.

What’s the Deal?
Published on January 29, 2025, this tender (Reference Number: UNDP-BIH-01166) seeks to assess, analyze, and strategize the utilization of geothermal energy in FBiH. The deadline for submission is February 26, 2025, at 09:00 AM (New York time)a tight but manageable window for firms and specialists eager to contribute to the region’s energy transformation.

Scope of Work: Charting the Geothermal Landscape
The project is structured into five critical tasks:

Task 1: Comprehensive collection and analysis of existing data on geothermal exploration, utilization, strategic plans, policies, and regulations in FBiH.
Task 2: Drafting a Preliminary Study on geothermal potential, identifying key areas for development.
Task 3: Facilitating public discussions on the findings of the Draft Study to ensure transparency and stakeholder engagement.
Task 4: Refining the study based on feedback, preparing the final document.
Task 5: Securing final approval from UNDP and the FBiH Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Industry.

Why This Study Matters
Geothermal energy offers a stable, low-emission, and renewable energy source, making it an ideal candidate for reducing FBiH’s reliance on fossil fuels. This study will lay the groundwork for future exploration, investment, and policy development in Bosnia and Herzegovina's geothermal sector.

Who Should Apply?
This RFP is a prime opportunity for:

Geothermal consultants and experts with experience in resource assessment and feasibility studies.
Energy firms and research institutions specializing in geothermal energy development.
Universities and geological survey organizations with expertise in subsurface data analysis.
Environmental and policy advisory firms that can shape sustainable energy frameworks.
