- Field surveys: Surface studies to understand resource characteristics.
- Economic analysis: Evaluating potential costs and benefits.
- Environmental considerations: Assessing potential impacts and regulatory requirements.
2. Feasibility Studies
- Resource assessment: Detailed analysis of temperature, pressure, flow rates, and reservoir characteristics.
- Engineering design: Conceptual layouts for well fields, power plants, and transmission systems.
- Financial modeling: Cost evaluation, revenue potential, and return on investment.
- Environmental impact assessment: Mitigation strategies and regulatory compliance.
3. Test Drilling
- Confirm resource suitability through drilling exploration, confirmation wells, and flow testing.
- Submission of a Drilling Plan detailing well locations, drilling techniques, and operational procedures is required.
4. Field Development
- Prepares the site for geothermal energy production, including coproduction of heat and power.
- Installation of power generation equipment, reservoir engineering, and construction of power infrastructure.
Applicants are required to submit a complete application package including:
- Pre-feasibility or feasibility studies
- Conceptual model of the project
- Drilling Plan
- Supplemental documents as listed in the Grant Application Checklist
Completed applications must be submitted as a .zip file via email to ceo_geothermal@state.co.us. Detailed instructions and all application materials can be found in the GEGP Application Materials folder.
