Deep Earth Energy Energy Partners with SLB: Ushering in a New Era of Geothermal Innovation in Canada  

In an ambitious leap towards redefining Canada's energy landscape, DEEP Earth Energy Production Corp. Deep has joined forces with global energy technology leader SLB (NYSE: SLB). This groundbreaking partnership aims to drive the development of Canada's first next-generation geothermal project in southeastern Saskatchewan. The project promises up to 30 MW of emissions-free baseload power once the initial two phases are complete — a significant milestone for Canada's renewable energy future.  


Overcoming Geothermal Barriers with Innovation  
Canada boasts enormous geothermal potential, but the sector has largely remained untapped due to economic and technical challenges. Conventional extraction methods have proven costly and inefficient. However, DEEP'S approach, inspired by proven technologies from the oil and gas sector, offers a game-changing solution.  

The project will deploy advanced horizontal drilling techniques to access the most productive zones in the formation, complemented by production enhancement technologies. With SLB global expertise in geothermal technology and well construction, this initiative represents the first of its kind in Canada, signaling a major shift towards sustainable geothermal energy.  

A Blueprint for Canada's Renewable Future  
“This collaboration marks a significant step in Canada's geothermal journey,” said Kirsten Marcia, President and CEO of DEEP. “By leveraging SLB expertise, we are optimizing subsurface and surface technologies to create a streamlined, high-efficiency operation. Our goal is to establish a blueprint for additional commercial geothermal projects in Canada.”  

In phase one, the project will see the development of two production and two injection wells, with up to 18 wells planned for phase two. The innovative engineering design will capitalize on the natural permeability of sedimentary rock formations, ensuring cost-efficient and sustainable geothermal energy production.  

Pioneering a Cleaner Energy Pathway  
Irlan Amir, Vice President of Renewables and Energy Efficiency at SLB, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “Our collaboration with DEEP reflects our commitment to expanding geothermal adoption by reducing project risks and accelerating time to first power. This project is opening new frontiers for geothermal energy in Canada and beyond.”  

The project's potential goes beyond just energy generation. It is set to make a significant contribution to Canada’s climate goals by reducing emissions and securing local energy resources. By addressing long-standing barriers, DEEP's initiative paves the way for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.  

A Vision Beyond 30 MW
With the initial 30 MW target in sight, DEEP’s long-term plan aims to expand the project to produce up to 180 MW of renewable power. The first 5 MW phase is slated for full commissioning by 2026, promising a reliable source of clean energy for decades to come.
