Fervo Energy has raised $1.5B, slashed drilling costs, and is eyeing an IPO. But ignoring DLE lithium co-production leaves billions on the table. Here's why By Alphaxioms | Energy & Critical Minerals Analysis Image: Fervo Energy’s Nasdaq debut marks a defining moment for geothermal energy. ⚡🌍 Fervo Energy has become the undisputed poster child of next-generation geothermal. With over $1.5 billion raised, drilling times slashed, and high-profile power deals with Google and California utilities, they've proven that enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) can work at scale But Fervo is leaving money in the ground. Literally. Every day, Fervo pumps millions of gallons of hot, pressurized brine through deep underground fractures at Cape Station (Utah) and Project Red (Nevada). They extract the heat, generate clean electricity, and then reinject the fluid. Job done. Except that brine isn't just water. Across the Great Basin — where Fervo operates — geothermal brines carry di...
XGS Energy Achieves 3,000-Hour Milestone for Water-Independent Geothermal System
By :Robert Buluma
HOUSTON, Sept 30, 2025 – In a groundbreaking achievement for the geothermal sector, XGS Energy has announced the successful 3,000-hour operation of its water-independent geothermal system at commercial scale. This milestone not only validates the system’s commercial economics but also positions XGS as the first company to demonstrate such technology under real-world, commercial conditions.
A New Era in Geothermal Innovation
The operations took place at the Coso Geothermal Field in California’s Western Mojave Desert, a site owned by Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure and operated by Coso Operating Company.
XGS Energy revitalized a well that had been idle for over two decades, installing its proprietary closed-loop geothermal system enhanced by Thermal Reach Enhancement (TRE) technology. Flow testing delivered a record performance, maintaining a sustained temperature difference of more than 158˚F (70˚C) between injection and production fluids an essential metric for geothermal power output.
Dr. Axel-Pierre Bois, CTO of XGS Energy highlighted the breakthrough:
“Predictable and sustainable long-term performance has been a thorn in the side of the geothermal industry. XGS’s ability to deliver highly predictable geothermal systems in any subsurface environment significantly de-risks project development and financing.”
Faster, Scalable, and More Predictable
The project also confirmed that TRE technology can be deployed efficiently, with placement completed in less than 24 hours. According to Dr. Ghazal Izadi, COO of XGS:
“This project shows we can produce geothermal energy at commercial scale while also shortening well construction times, enabling faster large-scale deployment.”
By decoupling geothermal power production from traditional dependence on natural water resources, XGS’S sealed closed-loop system offers unprecedented predictability, geographic flexibility, and finance ability all critical factors for global clean energy deployment.
Driving the Future of Clean, Reliable Power
This milestone is a stepping stone toward XGS’S three-gigawatt near-term commercial pipeline, bolstered by strong demand for new baseload energy solutions. Earlier this year, the company secured a partnership with Meta, committing to deliver 150 MW of next-generation geothermal energy to support Meta’s data centers in New Mexico.
Josh Prueher, CEO of XGS Energy , emphasized the strategic significance:
“This success is a critical enabler of our global pipeline as we showcase the geographic flexibility and differentiated financeability of XGS’S unique technology.”
Unlocking Geothermal Energy Everywhere
XGS’s breakthrough demonstrates how geothermal energy can step into a leading role in the clean energy transition. With validated commercial economics, faster deployment timelines, and zero water dependency, the company is reshaping the narrative around geothermal’s global potential.
XGS Energy is proving that clean, round-the-clock, affordable energy is not just possible—it’s here.
