MENA’s First Geothermal-Cooled Poultry Farm: Tanmiah and Strataphy Lead Sustainable Agriculture Revolution

Tanmiah Food Company and Strataphy Launch MENA’s First Geothermal-Cooled Poultry Farm at Shaqrah

By: Robert Buluma

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – November 6, 2025

In a groundbreaking move for sustainable agriculture, Tanmiah Food Company, one of the Kingdom’s leading poultry and food producers, has partnered with geothermal cooling innovator Strataphy to deploy the first geothermal-cooled poultry facility in the MENA region. This pilot program, located at Tanmiah’s Shaqrah Facility, represents a major leap forward in agricultural decarbonization and energy-efficient food production.

> “Tanmiah has always believed that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. This partnership with Strataphy is a tangible example of how we’re turning climate ambition into operational reality,” said Zulfiqar Hamadani, CEO of Tanmiah Food Company.

“Geothermal cooling offers us a competitive, cost-saving solution that aligns perfectly with our long-term growth and environmental goals, supporting Vision 2030.”

The project leverages Strataphy’s geothermal cooling technology, which taps into the Earth’s stable subsurface temperatures through shallow boreholes to provide continuous, energy-efficient cooling. The system reduces reliance on traditional, energy-intensive HVAC solutions, offering a low-carbon, cost-effective alternative suitable for Saudi Arabia’s extreme climate.

The facility will operate under Strataphy’s Cooling as a Service (CAS) model, which eliminates upfront capital investment, converting cooling into a predictable operational cost. The full-service package includes system design, drilling, installation, and long-term operations & maintenance, all backed by performance guarantees.

> “Poultry cooling in hot climates is an energy drain. Our system turns that liability into an opportunity,” said Ammar Alali, CEO of Strataphy.

“With this deployment, we are proving that Saudi Arabia can lead the world in clean, scalable agricultural cooling.”

The Shaqrah project is the first step in Tanmiah’s strategic plan to decarbonize its network of farms and facilities across the Kingdom. Data and insights from this pilot will inform future rollouts, potentially transforming poultry farming economics across Saudi Arabia and the broader MENA region.

> “This initiative reimagines how energy is used in food production,” added Muhammad Abbas Khan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tanmiah Food Company.

“We’re proud to lead with a solution that is both economically and environmentally responsible.”

With over 70% of electricity demand in Saudi buildings attributed to cooling, geothermal solutions are gaining momentum as the Kingdom pushes toward its Vision 2030 sustainability targets. By reducing grid dependency and lowering emissions, projects like Shaqrah pave the way for cost-efficient, scalable climate solutions in the agri-food sector and beyond.
