Exergy ORC Sets New World Record: 46 MW of Geothermal Power in Turkey Delivered in Under 13 Months

Exergy ORC Delivers Two Geothermal Power Plants in Turkey in Record Time: 46 MW Added in Under 13 Months By:  Robert Buluma On November 30, 2025, Exergy International proudly announced the successful commissioning of two new geothermal power plants in Aydın, Turkey: Maren Nezihe Beren 2 (13 MWe) and Emir (33 MWe), totaling 46 MW of new clean electricity capacity. What makes this milestone truly remarkable is the execution speed , both plants were delivered in less than 13 months from contract signing to full commercial operation, setting a new benchmark in the geothermal ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) industry. Why This Achievement Matters in 2025 In an era where renewable energy projects often face delays of 24–36 months (or longer), completing two binary-cycle geothermal plants totaling 46 MW in under 13 months is nothing short of extraordinary. Turkey already ranks 4th globally in installed geothermal capacity (~1.7 GW as of 2024), and these new plants reinforce the country’s lead...

HS Orka Defies Nine Volcanic Eruptions to Launch Iceland’s Largest-Ever Geothermal Turbine in Svartsengi

Iceland Commissions Its Largest Geothermal Turbine: Seventh Power Plant in Svartsengi Officially Launched Posted on December 2, 2025 By:  Robert Buluma In a remarkable display of human resilience against nature’s fury, Iceland has officially commissioned its newest and most powerful geothermal power plant expansion. On December 1, 2025, the seventh power plant in Svartsengi was inaugurated in a festive ceremony attended by dignitaries and guests, marking a historic milestone for renewable energy in Iceland. A 55 MW Giant: The Largest Steam Turbine in Iceland At the heart of the new facility is a massive 55 MW turbine-generator unit the largest steam turbine ever installed in Iceland. The official unveiling was performed by Iceland’s Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate, Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, together with Tómas Már Sigurðsson, CEO of HS Orka. “Building the newest power plant in Iceland while keeping every original deadline  despite the natural disasters that have ...

UK’s Deepest Closed-Loop Geothermal System Installed: Scunthorpe General Hospital Pioneers NHS Net Zero Heating with CeraPhi Energy’s 550m CeraPhiWell™

UK’s Deepest Geothermal Heating System Goes Live: Scunthorpe General Hospital Leads NHS Net-Zero Revolution with CeraPhi Energy’s 550m CeraPhiWell™ Project By:  Robert Buluma December 2025 – In a landmark moment for British clean energy and healthcare decarbonisation, CeraPhi Energy has begun installing the UK’s deepest closed-loop geothermal heat systems at Scunthorpe General Hospital, part of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust. The project, which started in October 2025 and is on track for completion by February 2026, repurposes an existing 550-metre borehole into a revolutionary CeraPhiWell™ system that will deliver continuous, low-carbon baseload heat to the entire hospital campus. Why This Project Matters for UK Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy has long been seen as the “missing piece” in the UK’s net-zero puzzle. While wind and solar dominate renewable headlines, they are intermittent. Hospitals, however, need 24/7 reliable heat – exactly what deep ...

DeepStor: Turning a Former Oil Field into a Giant Underground Heat Battery at KIT Campus North

DeepStor : Turning a Former Oil Field into a Giant Underground Heat Battery at KIT Campus North Published by  Robert Buluma : | November 2025 Imagine storing the surplus summer heat deep underground and bringing it back up in winter to warm an entire research campus  without burning any gas or emitting CO₂. That is exactly what the DeepStor research infrastructure at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Campus North is setting out to prove.  From black gold to green heat The Upper Rhine Graben, one of Europe’s classic oil provinces, still hides dozens of depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs beneath its surface. Instead of abandoning them, the DeepStor team wants to repurpose one of these former oil fields as a high-temperature seasonal heat storage  essentially a gigantic geothermal battery. Hot water (up to 130–150 °C) would be injected in summer when solar thermal collectors, waste heat from industry or even waste incineration plants produce more heat than needed. ...
