The U.S. Department of Energy's National Community Solar Partnership (NCSP) has taken a significant step forward in promoting the deployment of community solar projects that are equitable and exemplify best practices. The Community Power Accelerator™, along with its $10 million prize, aims to leverage $5 billion in private-sector financing commitments to assist community-based organizations and other mission-aligned project developers in securing financing and constructing community solar projects, particularly in disadvantaged and underrepresented communities.
This innovative program brings together a diverse group of stakeholders including investors, philanthropic organizations, developers, community-based organizations, and technical experts, all working together to increase the number of equitable community solar projects that are financed and deployed. Developers will receive technical assistance and access to a Learning Lab, which will help to establish a pipeline of verified, credit-worthy projects that can attract investors looking to fund community solar in disadvantaged communities.
Community solar allows any household to benefit from renewable energy, with a specific focus on those who otherwise would not have access to rooftop solar. It plays a crucial role in supporting the Biden-Harris Administration's Justice40 Initiative, which aims to ensure that every community benefits from the clean energy transition, and in achieving the President's goals of a 100% electric grid by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The Community Power Accelerator is an exciting opportunity to harness the power of the sun to power our communities, helping to make our climate goals a reality while simultaneously lowering energy costs and reducing local air pollution. The Biden administration's new clean energy laws are supercharging access to renewable energy, and the DOE is seizing this moment by accelerating community solar deployment to ensure affordable, clean energy is available to everyone, everywhere
