South Korea's Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has submitted a proposal to the Turkish government for the construction of four APR-1400 reactors in northern Turkey. KEPCO CEO Seung-il Jeong and Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, met on January 30 to discuss the project, which KEPCO said will involve a project feasibility study to determine the optimal business promotion plan.

KEPCO has a proven track record in delivering successful nuclear power plant projects, having completed construction of four APR1400 reactors in the UAE under a $20 billion deal in 2009. The company is the only operator among the latest nuclear power plants under construction in the West that has met budget and timeline expectations, earning the trust of its customers.

Turkey has made great strides in its nuclear program, launching the initiative in 2006 and currently constructing four VVER-1200 reactors with Russia at Akkuyu on the Mediterranean coast. Plans for nuclear development have also been proposed for Sinop and Igneada, with discussions for Atmea1 units in Sinop and AP1000s in Igneada underway with Westinghouse, China's SNPTC, and others.

With the submission of KEPCO's proposal, full-fledged discussions for the export of new nuclear power plants to Turkey have begun, signaling an exciting new chapter in the country's nuclear program. KEPCO's expertise, proven track record, and commitment to delivering top-notch nuclear power plants make the company a strong contender to bring Turkey's vision of a thriving nuclear industry to life.

APR-1400 is a pressurized water reactor (PWR) designed and developed by the Korean company Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP). It is a third-generation nuclear reactor technology with improved safety features, increased thermal efficiency, and enhanced operational reliability compared to previous PWR designs. The APR-1400 is widely used in South Korea and has been exported to several countries, including the United Arab Emirates.

Geothermal Milestone Reached: Banska PGP-4 Well in Szaflary, Poland Hits 5-Kilometer Depth By : Robert Buluma In a significant development for geothermal energy enthusiasts, drilling operations at the Banska PGP-4 well in Szaflary, Poland have reached a depth of 5 kilometers, marking a major milestone in the project's progress towards its 7-kilometer target. Since its inception, the ambitious geothermal drilling project in Szaflary has been making steady strides. As of the end of 2023, the well has successfully reached a depth of 5000 meters, uncovering promising results along the way. Notably, the well has tapped into a sizable reservoir boasting temperatures of 120 °C. The drilling will persist until it reaches the targeted depth of 7000 meters, where another aquifer is anticipated. The entire drilling endeavor is slated for completion within the first quarter of 2024. Initiated in 2019, the plans to drill a 7-kilometer geothermal well in Podhale, Szaflary aimed at gathering cruc
