This marks another significant milestone in the company’s long-standing commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions across the globe.A Major Win for Fuji Electric
Under this new contract, Fuji Electric (FE) will supply a complete set of geothermal power generation equipment, including a steam turbine and generator, and provide comprehensive engineering services. The project is being developed by a consortium comprising Sumitomo Corporation, PT Inti Karya Persada Tehnik, and PT Wasa Mitra Engineering, with FE spearheading the technological component of the installation.
This is not the first time Fuji Electric has collaborated on the Muara Laboh site. The company was also behind the delivery of equipment for Stage-1, which successfully began operation in 2019. Stage-2 is scheduled to commence operations in 2027, and will contribute an additional 83 MW to the geothermal plant, raising the total capacity to approximately 170 MW.
Supporting Indonesia’s Renewable Ambitions
Indonesia, home to the world’s second-largest geothermal reserves, is actively pursuing an ambitious goal: increasing its geothermal capacity from the current 2,600 MW to 5,000 MW by 2035. The Muara Laboh project is one of many initiatives aimed at unlocking this vast potential to secure a cleaner, more stable energy future.
Fuji Electric’s involvement in this expansion reflects not only its technical expertise but also its long-standing commitment to helping countries harness geothermal energy. Since 1960, FE has delivered over 86 geothermal steam turbines worldwide, totaling 3,600 MW in generation capacity, serving countries such as the United States, Philippines, Iceland, New Zealand, Kenya, and Japan.
Engineering a Decarbonized Tomorrow
Geothermal energy offers a reliable, renewable, and environmentally sustainable path forward. Fuji Electric’s corrosion and wear-resistant technology, coupled with advanced engineering, is proving vital in realizing geothermal ambitions in Indonesia and beyond.
As the world grapples with the pressing need to transition to clean energy, projects like Muara Laboh Stage-2 serve as a powerful reminder: the future is underground—hot, pressurized, and renewable. With Fuji Electric leading the charge, Indonesia is not just tapping into its geothermal depths—it's rising to the occasion in the global race toward decarbonization.
