GEL and Exergy ORC's Innovative Geothermal Lithium Project in United Downs"

"Geothermal Engineering Ltd and Exergy ORC Join Forces for Revolutionary Lithium Extraction in Redruth"

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) and Exergy ORC are set to unveil a cutting-edge 3-megawatt Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plant near Redruth, United Downs. This innovative project aims to harness the latent heat from lithium-rich rocks in Cornwall, marking a significant leap in sustainable energy and lithium extraction technologies.

Exergy ORC, the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors for the project, bring their expertise to the forefront, ensuring the seamless integration of the ORC power plant into the landscape of United Downs. The region's geothermal potential, coupled with the ORC technology, promises to deliver clean and renewable energy to the local grid.

Tests conducted by GEL have confirmed the presence of lithium in the Cornwall rocks, boasting an impressive 340 parts per million (ppm). This discovery positions United Downs as a key player in the lithium market, a vital component for batteries in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems.

The ambitious goal of GEL is to procure 100 tonnes per annum (tpa) of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) from United Downs by late 2024. This strategic move aligns with the growing demand for lithium globally, driven by the electric vehicle revolution and the push towards greener energy solutions.

The extraction of lithium from geothermal sources not only provides a sustainable supply but also contributes to the reduction of carbon footprint associated with traditional mining methods. The United Downs project exemplifies the synergy between renewable energy and resource extraction, showcasing a model for environmentally conscious and economically viable practices.

As the world strives to transition towards cleaner energy alternatives, GEL and Exergy ORC's collaboration serves as a beacon of progress. The 3-megawatt ORC power plant in Redruth represents a pioneering effort in combining geothermal energy with lithium extraction, ushering in a new era of sustainable power generation and resource utilization.

Stay tuned as GEL and Exergy ORC forge ahead, reshaping the energy landscape and unlocking the full potential of renewable resources right beneath our feet.
