Kenya Powers Up: IFC Injects Ksh 6 Billion to Accelerate Menengai Geothermal Project

Kenya Secures Ksh 6 Billion IFC Loan to Accelerate Menengai Geothermal Project 🚀🌱 By:  Robert Buluma Kenya’s green energy future just received a significant boost!  The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is planning a Ksh 6 billion (~$40 million) loan to accelerate construction at the Menengai Geothermal Project near Nakuru, a cornerstone in the country’s renewable energy ambitions. This funding is earmarked for the construction phase of one of the 35MW Independent Power Producer (IPP) plants within the larger 105 MW Menengai geothermal complex. Once fully operational, the complex is expected to supply clean energy to nearly 500,000 households, a huge leap toward Kenya’s goal of 100% clean energy generation by 2030. Why This Matters for Construction and Development 1. Project Acceleration The IFC loan ensures that construction continues smoothly and rapidly, keeping Kenya on track to expand its baseload renewable energy capacity. 2. Energy Security Unlike solar or wind...

Alphaxioms Spotlight: Strategic Geothermal Development Lessons from Aargau

Alphaxioms Insights: Unlocking Geothermal Potential – Lessons from the Canton of Aargau By  Robert Buluma Discover how Alphaxioms leverages lessons from the  Canton of Aargau to advance geothermal energy projects, combining data-driven mapping, strategic planning, and innovative technology for sustainable energy solutions. At Alphaxioms, we explore how geothermal energy can be effectively harnessed to power sustainable solutions worldwide. The Canton of Aargau in Switzerland recently launched a strategic geothermal initiative that serves as a model for data-driven development, offering valuable insights for Alphaxioms projects in Africa and beyond. Why Geothermal Energy Matters to Alphaxioms Geothermal energy is a reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly power source. Key advantages include: Baseload energy: Heat and electricity available 24/7. Minimal environmental footprint: Low surface area requirement and high efficiency. Climate impact: Supports carbon neutral...

Deep Geothermal Energy in Bremen and Delmenhorst: LBEG Grants New Exploration Permits

Deep Geothermal Energy in Bremen and Delmenhorst:  LBEG Grants New Exploration Permits By:  Robert Buluma The State Office for Mining, Energy, and Geology (LBEG) has granted OMV Green Energy GmbH  from Vienna three new permits to explore geothermal energy from depths of more than 400 meters. The fields Delmenhorst, Bremen-West, and Bremen-Ost cover a total of nearly 192 square kilometers and span two federal states. Area Distribution and Duration Bremen-West and Bremen-Ost : 166.5 km², from Borgfeld to Sodenmatt, valid until October 14, 2026 . Delmenhorst : 25 km², up to Brinkum, valid until October 14, 2027 . In Bremen, the three new fields now cover 57 percent of the city area . Across the state of Bremen, the four exploration permits account for more than 57.5 percent of the state’s area . Permit Process OMV Green Energy GmbH submitted the applications to LBEG. After comments from Bremen, Delmenhorst, and the district authorities, LBEG approved the permits...

Szczecin Launches Geothermal Drilling Project to Harness Clean Energy

Szczecin Bets on Geothermal Energy: Tender Announced for First Exploration Well By:  Robert Buluma On September 23, 2025, the city of Szczecin officially launched a tender for the construction of its first geothermal exploration well at Dąbska Street. This marks a major milestone in the city’s energy transition, as Szczecin looks to tap into the natural heat beneath its soil as a modern and sustainable energy source. Backed by National Environmental Funding The investment is valued at 12.9 million PLN, with most of the financing secured from the  National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW). The project is part of the national program “Making Thermal Waters Available in Poland”, which supports municipalities in exploring and utilizing geothermal energy for heating and power generation. Thanks to this funding, Szczecin plans to drill the Szczecin GT-2 well to a depth of nearly 2,000 meters. At this depth, experts expect to encounter geothermal water...
