The Future of Geothermal Energy

In a landmark deal that underscores the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions, Ormat Technologies Inc., a global leader in geothermal energy, has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Calpine Energy Solutions. This agreement solidifies Ormat's position as a trailblazer in geothermal innovation while supporting California’s ambitious renewable energy goals.

Under this agreement, Calpine Energy Solutions will procure up to 15 megawatts (MW) of carbon-free geothermal energy from Ormat's Mammoth 2 geothermal power plant in Mammoth Lakes, California. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, replacing the existing PPA with Southern California Edison.

Ormats Geothermal portfolio stretches globally with some of the wells in exploratory State.

This deal not only increases production capacity but also reflects a higher price point, highlighting the rising value of renewable energy amidst California’s Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) compliance and corporate sustainability initiatives.
